Anderlecht have set an asking price of £27m for Manchester United target Leander Dendoncker this summer, according to reports.
Man United had expressed an interest in the Belgian, who scored during Anderlecht’s quarter final clash with Jose Mourinho‘s men this season, after seemingly losing out on both Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier.
The need for the 22-year-old, a regular at Anderlecht since the age of 19, has somewhat diminished after United completed the signing of Matic earlier this week.
He could still be on Mourinho’s radar over the next month, however, and Anderlecht have made it clear that they will have to pay at least £27m to secure his services.
Dendoncker’s agent, Christophe Henrotay, has confirmed that the 22-year-old wants to seek a new challenge next summer.
“Anderlecht want to keep him but the kid wants a new challenge,” he said. “We’ll see if we can find an agreement with the club but that seems difficult.”
Moving for the Belgian would make sense if Mourinho was open to selling Marouane Fellaini, linked with a move to Galatasaray in recent times, but the 54-year-old has made it clear that the 29-year-old is going nowhere.
And with Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Matic, Andreas Pereira and perhaps even Scott McTominay contending for a place in midfield next season, splashing £27m on another would be superfluous.
