Antonio Conte has suggested he did not want to let Nemanja Matic leave Chelsea with his recent comments, claiming supporters would have to ask the board why he was allowed to join Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho completed a £40million deal to sign the Serbian midfielder this week and he’s gone on to make a spectacular debut in the final game of the pre-season tour against Sampdoria.

He is now targeting a place in the side for the clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday and many couldn’t believe the fact that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned a move, especially after previously letting Petr Cech go to Arsenal.

Conte gave a blunt response when asked about Matic’s departure, saying: “You have to ask the club about this.”

United manager Jose Mourinho was delighted to land Matic after previously signing him for Chelsea, calling him a genius and it’s clear there is trust between the pair as the Portuguese boss secured his services for the second time at another club.

Matic is an incredibly talented player, a proven Premier League winner and there’s no doubting the fact that he has the ability, combined with the rest of the squad, to turn United into challengers next campaign.
