Anthony Martial looks ahead to Manchester United’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid

Anthony Martial has been reflecting on Manchester United’s upcoming clash with Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday, noting that Jose Mourinho‘s men will need to make the good work put in over pre-season count in Macedonia.

The two sides met last month in Los Angeles, with Martial impressing with a sensational piece of skill to set-up Man United’s goal.

Mourinho’s side eventually prevailed on penalties and will now face Zinedine Zidane’s men again in their bid to win their first ever Super Cup.

And Martial, looking ahead to the game, noted that it was going to be a tough match in the Macedonian heat against the Champions League winners.

“It’s going to be a tough match,” he said.

“It has been up to us to prepare ourselves for it during these friendly matches, and to be ready to take home this title to Manchester. We are all looking forward to it.”

United will be firm underdogs heading into this game, and that could suit Mourinho very nicely.

They are going up against the best club side in the world. Zidane’s Madrid have developed a mastery over winning games without actually turning many heads, doing so with a kind of quiet, ruthless, even joyless efficiency that subtly but surely rolls teams over.

Then again, this is a specialty originally popularised by Mourinho, and supporters will be interested to see how he sets up against a Madrid side with fewer minutes under their belts and, perhaps crucially, possibly without Cristiano Ronaldo.
