Gary Neville: This is why Man United must win the Premier League this season

Gary Neville believes Manchester United must go all out for the Premier League title this season.

Jose Mourinho failed to guide the side to a top four finish last season in his debut campaign at Old Trafford, however, he did manage to win the League Cup and Europa League, securing Champions League football for this year in the process.

Neville believes Mourinho should be challenging for the title after all the money that has been invested into the team, signing the likes of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly, Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic since last summer.

Speaking about the squad, Neville insists United should be aiming for nothing other than first.

“You can’t just drop your expectation because they haven’t won it for a couple of years. They have to win the league. Mourinho has to win the league here,” he said.

“The money that’s been spent, his own personal expectations and what he’s always delivered has been titles, so I would say United have to approach this season to win the league.

“I don’t think it’s good enough to say “they’re going to get back into fourth”. That isn’t an ambition when you’ve spent the money that’s been spent and amassed the players that Mourinho has now amassed.”

United have a very talented squad and Mourinho is taking the squad back to winning ways as he hopes to challenge on all fronts.

It was disappointing that we didn’t finish higher in the league last year but our aims have changed and the Premier League title should be the main focus.
