Gary Neville has explained why he’s been surprised by Nemanja Matic‘s arrival at Manchester United, claiming Chelsea were wrong to let him leave.

A deal was said to be worth around £40m as he made the Old Trafford switch, however, it’s clear that he was worth far more, especially in the current market.

He’s an experienced Premier League winner and was influential in the winning Chelsea side, which is why Jose Mourinho has also claimed he was surprised he was allowed to sign Matic.

Speaking about a deal, Neville has been delighted with the signing of Matic.

“You cannot believe Chelsea have given Mourinho a piece of the jigsaw in Matic,” he said. “I can’t think of one reason why Chelsea sold him.

“United beat Chelsea to Lukaku and then Chelsea have handed them Matic. They look like the type of players that were needed to correct what was wrong last season, and Chelsea have helped them and had a big influence on that.”

Although Romelu Lukaku has taken the headlines after finding two goals on his official debut, Matic deserves so much more praise for his incredible performance.

Not only did he control the midfield allowing Paul Pogba to roam forward and create chances, he also showcased his ability to dribble and keep hold of the ball as it’s clear Mourinho has completed an astounding piece of business.
