Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been left surprised over Chelsea’s decision to sell Nemanja Matic to their Premier League rivals.
Manchester United completed a £40million move for the Serbian last month and he’s already showcased that it was a great deal, putting in a man of the match display in his new side’s Premier League opener against West ham.
Paul Pogba was unshackled by his new midfield partner at Old Trafford and it’s a brilliant partnership for the new season as he relieves the Frenchman of most of his defensive duties, allowing him to become more creative in his role.
Speaking about the move, Mkhitaryan claims he has a special quality.
“Actually I am (shocked),” he said. “But at the same time I am very happy that we have got him.”
“Matic does a big job on the pitch. He tries to recover all the balls. He defensively does a big job.
“[Romelu] Lukaku scored his goals and [Victor] Lindelof is still going to have time to show himself. So I want to say all the players are good signings and they are going to help us a lot.”
Matic was exceptional against West Ham as he settled in almost instantly, showcasing he doesn’t only have the ability to control the game, but also to hold onto the ball and dribble through opposition players, seeing him setting up counter attacks further up the field.
