Manchester United are expected to extend Luke Shaw‘s contract as Jose Mourinho has been impressed with his dedication during the pre-season tour, according to The Times.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit as there is only 10 months remaining on his current deal.

Man United were allegedly prepared to offload the Englishman for a Champions League quality left-back as the Portuguese boss was deciding over his fourth signing.

However, The Times claim Man United are ready to extend his contract by a year after he returned to first-team training following injury to his left foot during the 1-1 draw against Swansea in April.

There is no timeframe on his return to fitness, but Jose Mourinho has recently confirmed he will be playing for the u23s on Monday to test his fitness.

He’s come under criticism from the Portuguese boss for his inability to play through the pain barrier and his mental capacity to perform without guidance but it seems like Mourinho has changed his tune.

Mourinho has been impressed by Shaw’s work in the pre-season tour of America and is now keen to keep him at the club as he hopes to save his career at Old Trafford.
