Nemanja Matic has made note of the incredible support from Manchester United fans since his arrival earlier this month, noting he was looking forward to playing in front of their away support against Swansea City on Saturday.
The Serbian completed a £40m move to Old Trafford earlier this month, signing a three year contract, and dazzled supporters on his first Premier League outing in a red shirt against West Ham United.
Speaking ahead of United’s first away clash of the season against Swansea City, Matic was quick to point out the incredible support that follows the team all over the world.
“I think Manchester United fans are amazing,” he said.
“I saw Old Trafford and know that they really love the club and support us during 90 minutes. I think away, they’re even better. When I played against Manchester, I could feel they are good and always support so I’m looking forward to that game.”
Matic was an integral part of the Chelsea side responsible for dishing out a 4-0 defeat to United back in October. Alongside N’Golo Kante he was indomitable. United couldn’t get past him. This was Chelsea’s day and a time for Mourinho to reflect on his work at Old Trafford.
And yet, in the face of ignominy, it was the United fans producing all the noise as the rest of Stamford Bridge festered in its usual state of entitled idleness. Perhaps this was something Matic never forgot: no matter what happens, no matter how beaten United are, their supporters will always be there – loud and proud without fail.
