Jose Mourinho has explained why he was left impressed with these Manchester United plays, claiming his substitutes made him look even better after Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Swansea City.
The Portuguese boss opted to bring on Marouane Fellaini and Anthony Martial with his side 1-0 up at Liberty Stadium with a quarter of an hour to go, also bringing on Ander Herrera to help close out the game.
Just five minutes after the changes, Romelu Lukaku found the back of the net, shortly followed by goals from Paul Pogba and Martial to add to the scoreline.
Speaking about the goals, Mourinho believes the attitude of his squad has been excellent.
“I think the team is confident and both matches winning 1-0 at half-time we didn’t start the second-half looking like we have to keep a clean sheet to win the match,” he told reporters in his post-match press conference.
“We always look like, ‘let’s at least control the game by having the ball and try to score more goals’. And we did that in both matches.
“Players on the bench [with] great quality make it easy for me to make decision to make changes. Great players make managers look even better.
“I really think they’re fantastic, their attitude, all of them. Even the ones not selected because we know you need a squad to do something good this season.”
United have done an excellent job so far as the players have been very impressive but it’s only the start of the season.
It’s important the squad keep on track and don’t get carried away as there are many big games approaching.
