The 35-year-old is recovering from a knee ligament injury sustained in a Europa League match against Anderlecht in April and he’s expected to be out of action until the new year.
He’s been working hard on his rehabilitation and it’s the reason why the new contract will be announced earlier than anticipated.
Even though he was due to be out of contract in June, he was allowed to do his rehabilitation at United’s AON Training Centre.
Jose Mourinho wanted him to sign a contract to stay at the club all along as the pair get on very well, with the big Swede scoring 28 goals in his debut season at Old Trafford before his campaign was ended prematurely.
He’s a big influence in the dressing room and United’s commercial department will receive a boost from the new contract as his shirt name outsold any other player by at least two to one last season.
Although he’s been linked with other clubs it seems Zlatan is set on ending what he started the right way, rather than being forced out of England with a career-ending injury.
