Daniel Levy blocked Eric Dier’s move to Manchester United this summer

Darren Anderton insists Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy blocked Eric Dier’s move to Manchester United this summer.

He had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho assessed his options before the Portuguese boss secured the services of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea instead.

Speaking about a move, Anderton claims Dier may have been right to look elsewhere if he has been hoping for more playing time.

“Eric could have quite easily gone to United this year, but Levy made sure that didn’t happen, but he’ll want to play. He won’t kick up a fuss, but if he can go and be a regular in another team you couldn’t blame him for leaving – no matter how much he loves the club,” he said.

“Quite easily’? If that were the case he would be at United already. Nothing is easy with Levy, who definitely did make sure Dier to United didn’t happen.”

He would have been great at Old Trafford but Nemanja Matic has proven we aren’t missing out on anything.

The Serbian has been absolutely specular and is set for a big season at Old Trafford as he looks to form a strong partnership with Paul Pogba in the center of the park.
