He won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award last May and had been a vital player at Old Trafford, especially as United added the Europa League and League Cup to the trophy cabinet.
However, he has endured a slow start to the new season as Nemanja Matic has been given the starting role, leaving Herrera on the bench for the three starting games of the new Premier League season.
Even from the bench, the Spaniard was shouting instructions, helping players and speaking to others, something that didn’t go unnoticed by the Portuguese boss.
“I saw Herrera on the bench, screaming, speaking, helping players and he wasn’t on the pitch. This is the group we have and the team we have.”
He’s only played five minutes this season to help close out the Swansea City clash, but it just goes to show the squad depth Mourinho has at his disposal.
Herrea was very influential last season and it’s clear he’s still very passionate about the club, even if he hasn’t got a starting role, something which has clearly impressed Mourinho.
