Leicester City interested in signing Chris Smalling from Manchester United – report

Leicester City are interested in signing Chris Smalling from Manchester United before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

He has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford as Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have started the new Premier League season as Mourinho’s preferred pairing in the centre of defence.

The Englishman is also behind the likes of Victor Lindelof and Daley Blind, with Marcos Rojo set to take his role back in the squad once he returns from his injury.

Leicester have been looking to take advantage of the situation and are looking to make a deal for the 27-year-old as Craig Shakespeare has been keen on acquiring his services.

He has plenty of experience and was even considered as one of the best defenders in the league under Louis van Gaal, however, he hasn’t been able to keep up his performances and has made many mistakes, which have seen him fall further down the pecking order.

It’s a shame it hasn’t worked out for him but it seems he could be set to take his career elsewhere if Mourinho sanctions the move to a Premier League rival.
