Manchester United target Arda Turan set to leave Barcelona – report

by Leo Nieboer

Jose Mourinho could make Barcelona’s Arda Turan his fourth signing of the summer after the Turk expressed a desire to leave the Nou Camp following the arrival of Ousmane Dembele, according to reports.

The Turk joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 2015 but has struggled to breach the starting XI and impress supporters, acting mainly as cover for when either Luis Suarez or Neymar weren’t available.

And Dembele’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund earlier this week has only pushed the unpopular Turan, left out of the squad against Alaves, miles behind the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde.

According to AS Spain, Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut will look to arrange a move away from Barcelona in the coming days and Mourinho, in turn, could make a late bid for the winger.

The Portuguese is an admirer of Turan, despite his recent lapse at Barcelona, and has reportedly held several meetings with the 30-year-old over the summer over a potential move to Old Trafford.

Barcelona supporters place enormous emphasis on the aesthetic side of the beautiful game and Turan’s style is hardly easy on the eye: tenacious, scrappy, hardworking and disciplined on and off the ball. These are not the attributes that will help you succeed at the Nou Camp, but Mourinho would, you sense, be keen on incorporating such a style in his current set-up at United.
