Manchester United have asked about the chances of signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports.
A series of tweets from El Pais journalist Diego Torres Romano suggest Jose Mourinho has tried to negotiate a deal for Bale, however, the Spanish club have already turned down any sort of move.
He had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and Jose Mourinho claimed he would have tried to sign him had Real left him out of the clash for the Super Cup and after the game, insisted it was clear the Spanish club wanted to keep hold of him.
Diego Torres Romano suggests there has been contact between both clubs.
“Today a United emissary has asked Madrid if there is provision to negotiate the sale of Bale. The first answer has been no.
“Florentino does not want to sell Bale. But in Madrid there is a sector of partisanship to sell already, taking advantage of market inflation.
“Bale has not learned Spanish in 4 years. But he likes Madrid. He never imagined he could win 2 Champions doing so little.
“3 Champions! Yes, Bale has won 3. The same as Raúl and two more than Zidane as a player.”
United are not expected to make any more signings before the end of the window, especially not to try and sign Bale for around £100m.
As previously stated, United are not expected to make a last ditch attempt to sign Bale.
He isn’t the most popular figure with the Spanish press at the moment at the Bernabeu but he looks set to stay and will be an important player for the club.
