Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have all been working hard with the England national side at St George’s Park and have been pictured in good spirits ahead of the visit to Malta on Friday.
The four were all part of the England squad that drew 2-2 with Scotland and then lost 3-2 to France in Paris – hallmarked by a Paul Pogba masterclass – back in June.
Gareth Southgate’s men will travel to Malta for what should be a formality and a chance to hand less experienced players some game time before returning to London for a World Cup qualifier with Slovakia.
And the quartet have been putting in the hard yards in training on Wednesday before jetting off to the Mediterranean island on Thursday.
Rashford hasn’t claimed a goal for his national side since scoring in less than three minutes on his debut against Australia and, having netted the deciding goal for Man United against Leicester last weekend, will have a superb opportunity to add to his tally against Malta.
Jones has made an imperious start to the Premier League season, keeping three clean sheets in a row alongside Eric Bailly, and having started England’s last game he will be in contention to receive further minutes from Southgate.
