Ander Herrera sends message to Manchester United teammates ahead of Stoke City clash

by Leo Nieboer

Ander Herrera has called on his Manchester United teammates to lay down another important marker in the Premier League by claiming a rare win at Stoke City on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho‘s men have emerged as the the only side with a 100 per cent record after three games, claiming ten goals and conceding none on the way.

But the omens could be better ahead of their trip to Stoke, with their last victory at the Bet365 Stadium coming through goals from Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie during the latter stages of the 2012/13 title winning campaign.

And Herrera, whilst acknowledging his side’s recent poor record against Mark Hughes’ men, has made it clear that this United side doesn’t fear anybody in the Premier League.

“The Premier League is very long and every team can beat you,” he said. “Now we have to face Stoke, and we’ve had four seasons without winning there. It’s been a good way to start [the campaign] but we cannot relax.”

“We are ready to face them and, hopefully, the weather is not so bad there because, when it is bad, it is very difficult to play. We are ready. No excuses – let’s try to win there. We are Manchester United, so we are not scared.”

Mourinho will need to do something different to beat Stoke and Herrera, you sense, will play an important part.

The Spaniard has only managed five minutes of action so far this season but his running power could be crucial in what promises to be a ferociously paced encounter on Saturday.

Supporters will be keen to see how the long-awaited midfield trio of Herrera, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic fare when pitted against confident, physically imposing opposition.
