Paul Pogba produces commanding performance against Stoke City

Paul Pogba produced another dominating display during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Frenchman was an assured, innovative influence on the ball and headed home via the back of Marcus Rashford to bring Jose Mourinho‘s men back in the game before half time.

He then led Man United’s second half onslaught, picking out precise passes and forcing Stoke deeper into their own half, but couldn’t forge a later winner.

Nevertheless, his numbers from the game shed light on what was another commanding display in midfield from the 24-year-old.

This draw with Stoke – an entertaining affair for neutrals – taught us a few new things: Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are not, after all, the perfect defensive partnership; Ander Herrera‘s role is unclear; United can be exposed on their left hand side.

One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is Pogba’s supreme control of United’s midfield. He was once again central to anything positive going through the middle – innovating going forward, superb in tight spaces, and quick to move play up the pitch.

Joe Allen and Darren Fletcher made him work but, once again this season, the midfielder was completely in charge by the latter stages. And on another day he may have swung the result in United’s favour.
