Manchester United have scouted Benfica youngster Andrija Zivkovic on a number of occasions this season already, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

The Serbian attacking midfielder, who is just 21, has begun this season in a more significant role than last season for Benfica in both Europe and Liga NOS.

Man United scouts have attended every Benfica game this season, though that is not irregular given the talent that comes out of the Portuguese side.

Despite that, Zivkovic has earned good reports from the Reds’ scouts, suggest O Jogo. United are scouting Benfica even more extensively than usual because both teams have been drawn in Group A of the Champions League.

The Serb was named Man of the Match for Benfica in midweek, starting in central midfield against CSKA Moscow in a surprise 2-1 defeat as United beat FC Basel 3-0 on Tuesday night. It was his ball that set up Haris Seferovic to put Benfica in front.

He’s played two full consecutive games, having played only 15 times last season, with five of those coming from the bench. Last season he managed to get three assists.

United fans will get the chance to see Zivkovic’s qualities when United face the Portuguese champions in back-to-back clashes over October.
