The Spaniard enjoyed his finest season yet in a Man United shirt last year, asserting himself as an indispensable member of Jose Mourinho‘s midfield and deservedly winning the Sir Matt Busby ‘Player of the Year’ award.
He has only featured sporadically so far this season, making just one start, but recently noted that he would give everything when called upon by the Portuguese.
And according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, the club will activate a clause on Herrera’s contract – set to expire at the end of the season – that enables him to stay at another year, with the Spaniard receiving improved terms following a seminal year.
There are some players that, for whatever reason, find their calling at a particular club, and such is the case with Herrera. The midfielder loves United like a supporter and supporters, in turn, adore the tenacious, efficient Spaniard for what he gives to the side both on and off the pitch.
He will not feature as regularly this season as Nemanja Matic continues to dominate at the base of midfield, but having Herrera’s energy and mentality will be invaluable during a long, topsy-turvy season.
