Manchester United plotting £52m January bid for AS Monaco’s Fabinho – report

Manchester United are preparing to launch a fresh £52m bid to secure the services of AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho over the January transfer window, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho has been linked with the Brazilian ever since he took over at Old Trafford and was reportedly keen on signing him last summer, urging the club hierarchy to make an improved bid.

The Brazilian himself hinted towards a move elsewhere over the summer and even publicly voiced his frustration at not being allowed to speak with other clubs.

And according to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, Mourinho will sanction the club to launch a £52m bid to sign Fabinho over the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old was a hotly pursued item over the summer, with Paris Saint Germain, Atletico Madrid and Juventus also expressing interest, but Monaco simply couldn’t let him go after seeing Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and later Kylian Mbappe head for the exit door.

Fabinho has every right to be fuming: club president Vadim Vasilyev noted earlier in the summer that nobody would leave the club after Tiemoue Bakayoko, only to then lose Mbappe and accept a bid for Thomas Lemar.

And the Brazilian, in turn, surely must feel as if Monaco should give him the green light to join United.
