Manchester United to offer David de Gea contract extension in coming weeks

Manchester United are set to offer David de Gea a new contract extension in the coming weeks, according to The Independent.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been in superb form at the start of this season, and his current deal expires in 2019.

La Liga and European Champions Real Madrid are perennially interested in De Gea, who was moments from joining the club back in 2015 before a fax machine error caused the Deadline Day deal to fall through.

Next summer will see De Gea have just a year left on his contract, making a move from Real Madrid more likely.

Man United are now confident that their number one will agree to a new deal despite Madrid’s interest.

The 26-year-old is thought to be comfortable in Manchester as a city and is enjoying playing for the club, says The Independent.

De Gea is one of, if not the, best goalkeepers in the world. His value to United is far greater than simply a transfer fee or a contract, and the club and José Mourinho are making the right move by looking to extend his deal.

Real Madrid have to be continually held off, given De Gea’s connections to the city, with some family and friends remaining there.

If De Gea does agree to a new deal, it will be fantastic news for United and fans, given he is one of the side’s world-class players.
