Initial thoughts were that the Frenchman wouldn’t be out for too long but after Jose Mourinho placed him in the same category as long term absentees Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, fans feared the worse.
Pogba started the new Premier League campaign in fine form, appearing to be fully integrated into the squad and his surroundings.
It started to look as though he’d play a key role in Manchester United’s hunt for glory but with an injury that appears to have no return date, the squad’s other midfielders will need to step up.
Matic however, was more optimistic about his teammate’s injury and insisted that the team can cope without him:
According to Sky Sports Matic said: “We know that he will be out for some time. He’s very important for us, he’s a great player, but I am sure that he will be ready soon.
“I am sure that he will recover well and he will be ready for this season to help us and to score many goals.
Everyone knows that Paul is very important for Manchester United, but we also have great players to play instead of him.
“We showed in the last few games that everyone in Manchester is ready to play and everyone can help us.”
The former Chelsea man does have a point. All of Manchester United’s players have looked hungry for game time and have impressed on the pitch whether they’ve started or come on as a substitute.
Marouane Fellaini appears to be Mourinho’s back-up to Pogba and has played impressively since the former Juventus man’s injury. A brace against Crystal Palace is testament to that.
Herrera in particular seems to be Jose’s way of shoring things up for the team during the last few moments of the game.
A switch to a 4-3-3 formation has also allowed the club’s other midfielders to get more game time than they would’ve gotten should Pogba have been available.
However, coping is one thing and excelling is another. United will surely need Paul as soon as he’s fit to take the club to the next level.
