Both Rashford and Martial have been battling it out all season to feature in match days with Jose Mourinho seemingly picking either one or the other.
It’s fair to say the friendly rivalry has helped get the best out of both talents with the pair in fine form so far this season.
Marcus’ exploits have helped him secure a call-up to the England international team while Anthony has continued to be underrated by the France manager.
Either way, Rashford’s mature viewing of competition for places will be music to Mourinho’s ears as he continues to rotate the two wonder-kids.
According to ESPN Marcus said: “Without it [competition for places], you don’t improve. Young players need that sort of environment around them.
I think we’re both enjoying our football at the moment, we’re both having our say in the games, and it’s good for us, good for the manager, good for the team.”
It’s certainly good for the team as Manchester United remain unbeaten across all competitions and have the pair of youngsters to thank for their fine start.
Mourinho has already stated publicly that he wishes to have two players per position in order to have his squad fighting for a starting XI spot.
It appears for now that the position both players are fighting for is the left wing position although Romelu Lukaku’s recent injury may open up the striker position.
It also seems that when Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns from his injury, he will be the one to compete with Lukaku instead as the manager places his faith in Rashford and Martial for the flank positions.
Surely in the future Mourinho will slowly shift either one or both of the players into the striker role but for now, fans can enjoy watching the kids perform from out wide.
