Despite having the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League, and one of the best in Europe, Kevin Keegan has criticised Manchester United’s defence.
In defending Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, the Anfield legend claimed that Jose Mourinho‘s side are also not strong defensively.
The two clubs face off next Saturday in a key clash, with Liverpool desperately needing a win at home, and Man United in fantastic form.
Liverpool have one of the worst defensive records in the league and issues at the back have plagued them since Klopp’s arrival.
“I don’t think Manchester City, Manchester United or Chelsea are great defensively. It’s not just a Liverpool problem,” Keegan told the Daily Mail.
No club in the Premier League has kept more cleansheets so far this season, with the Reds only conceding in one game so far this season.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have conceded in all but two of their opening seven games.
Keegan’s defence of Klopp is acceptable and allowed, but it’s rather shortsighted to suggest that United and Manchester City should be equally as worried about their defence.
The two Manchester clubs are some of Europe’s best statistically, with two goals conceded in seven league games for both sides this season. City, in fact, put four past Liverpool’s defence with none in reply.
