Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has expressed interest in joining either Manchester United or Barcelona once his contract expires at the end of the season, according to reports.
Speculation surrounding the German’s future has continued to mount ever since he stalled on signing a new contract at the Emirates over the summer.
And reports have claimed that Jose Mourinho, who enjoyed a good working relationship with Ozil at Real Madrid, is confident of prizing him away from Arsenal for free next year.
According to Goal‘s Chris Wheatley, the playmaker is weighing up his options and would be interested in joining either Man United or Barcelona in the future.
The report stresses that Ozil could indeed decide to stay at the Emirates, while Alexis Sanchez – another United target – appears destined for a move away – most likely to Manchester City after the club made a late bid for him on transfer deadline day.
That said, it seems clear that Ozil is far from set on remaining at Arsenal. If he was then that contract would have been signed months ago.
And Mourinho, in turn, may feel tempted to make some enquiries and present the German with a tantalising alternative. I mean, just look at what happened when United last signed Arsenal’s best player.
