The Spaniard has drawn widespread praise for another world-class performance as Man United drew 0-0 with Liverpool away at Anfield on Saturday.
De Gea made a remarkable save to deny Joel Matip in the first half. It will go down as one of the finest in his career and one of the best in the Premier League this season.
“De Gea is absolutely brilliant,” Neville said on Sky Sports after the match.
“He has just produced a world-class save. Wow, what a save. If you are going for the title you need a great goalkeeper and United have one.”
“Is there anybody better in the world right now than David de Gea? I’m not sure now. This guy is doing some things now that are absolutely stunning.”
Also a pundit for the game on Sky, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness agreed “De Gea is a top goalkeeper, arguably the best around.”
Meanwhile, Matip spoke of his shock at how De Gea saved his shot to keep it at 0-0.
His reactions and decision-making are incomparable across world football, with some of the best instinct saves every season coming from De Gea.
The United goalkeeper was recently nominated for the Balon d’Or.
That’s much-needed, with the 26-year-old quite clearly the league’s best and competing only with Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer for the title of the world’s best.
Real Madrid are always circling, having come close to signing him in 2015, but De Gea is reportedly happy with life in England and enjoying playing for United.
