Manchester United took on Liverpool at Anfield for their first real test of the season but ended up drawing the game in an uninspiring display.
It was also, arguably, Romelu Lukaku’s first real test of the season after being labelled a flat track bully against weaker sides.
The accusations were that the Belgian only scores against leaky defences and not the Premier League’s top teams.
Against Liverpool, Lukaku had the chance to set the record straight but was left horribly isolated by his teammates.
The powerful forward had a half-chance that, should he have scored, would’ve given the Red Devils the lead and possibly the win but instead fired it directly at Simon Mignolet.

Romelu Lukaku is so isolated up front there is only so much he can do. Feel Man United need Juan Mata on the pitch. Need time on the ball.

No shower needed for Lukaku.

Despite the poor showing from Romelu, he worked tirelessly, chasing after hoofed balls in the air and trying to pressurise his opponents into a mistake.
The former Everton striker was also possibly still recovering from an injury sustained during the international break with his country.
Although he was given the all clear, it’s likely that he still needed another day or two to completely heal and to be sharper for his team.
Last year’s trip to Anfield brought out a similar performance for Manchester United with Zlatan Ibrahimovic then guilty of missing a half-chance.
Lukaku has been known for his clinical nature but he will surely be rueing his tame shot at Liverpool’s goal in the first half.
Jose Mourinho meanwhile, will be happy his team weathered the storm and came out with a point most sides would respect.
