Anthony Martial is Manchester United’s most gifted player, according to Arsenal and France legendary striker Thierry Henry.
The young forward started for the Reds in Man United’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool after a fantastic start to the season.
He’s predominantly been involved off the substitutes bench but, after a knock to Marcus Rashford suffered during the international break, Martial started on the left flank.
Ahead of the game, Henry said, “he’s the most gifted player they have.”
“You can see the difference in Martial’s eyes. He wants to kill people, he wants to score, wants to assist.”
Martial arrived at United in 2015 as world football’s most expensive ever teenager and immediately drew comparisons to Thierry Henry due to his background.
After netting against Liverpool on his debut in stunning fashion, those comparisons continued and his play on the left-wing has only added to the similarities in play.
Henry has spoken positively of Martial since he arrived at Old Trafford, previously saying the 21-year-old is a far better player than he was himself at the same age.
Martial was largely ineffective against Liverpool, but was the key cog in United’s best chance at Anfield that came at the end of the first half. Romelu Lukaku failed to finish off.
By most gifted, we can assume Henry doesn’t mean best, but instead is talking about talent and thus potential. It’s difficult to argue with the Sky Sports pundit, then, given Martial’s performances for United, first as a teenager and now aged 21, ripping defences apart.
