Liverpool defender Joel Matip was shocked to see Manchester United’s David de Gea save his shot after it appeared to be going into the back of the net.
The Cameroonian centre-back featured for his side in the fierce rivalry clash that ended in a bore goalless draw.
Both sides had a single stand-out chance each to secure the result for their team but thanks to United’s world-class goalkeeper, Liverpool were unable to get all three points to themselves.
De Gea saved the fine effort in his usual unconventional way, using his feet to keep the shot out rather than his hands.
Surely there’s no United fan who cares about the Spaniard’s technique so long as the ball is kept out of the net and David pulled off one of his best saves in his career.
Speaking to Sky Sports Matip said: “It was a great save by De Gea. I have to score – we win this game if I score. His reaction was brilliant.”
Thanks to the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper the Red Devils managed to come away with a single point despite their poor showing.
Jose Mourinho‘s men were uninspiring and collectively poor against an intense Liverpool side keen on coming out on top.
United tried to play on the counter-attack, meaning not too many chances would be created and the few that are would require a clinical finish.
Unfortunately, Romelu Lukaku couldn’t finish the half-chance that came his way but unlike David De Gea, Simon Mignolet’s save was a routine one.
The Belgian fired almost directly at the opposition goalkeeper but had he placed it on either side, his teammates would be celebrating an undeserved win- the best kind of win.
