Juan Mata has revealed the Manchester United squad’s satisfaction at getting a point away at Anfield on Saturday afternoon against Liverpool.
The Spaniard was on the bench for the Premier League clash as Jose Mourinho side held out against their main rivals.
The Reds have come in for much criticism for their performance and the style of play at Anfield, sitting back for the majority of the game and having just one shot on target, though Liverpool also had only one shot on target.
Writing in his weekly blog post, Mata hailed the work rate of his teammates.
“The draw at Anfield on Saturday was the consequence of the team’s work and solidarity,” Mata said.
“Obviously, we wanted to win, but it’s not a bad result given the circumstances. We added one point and got a clean sheet, and now we are already focused on the Champions League.”
Manchester United have a mixed record at Anfield, particularly in Sir Alex Ferguson‘s final years as manager when the Reds were beaten time after time.
Since José Mourinho became United manager, his side have drawn both games away from home against Liverpool 0-0.
Getting a point at Anfield is generally a pretty good result, however, some United fans are disappointed with the performance rather than the 0-0 scoreline. United waited for a Liverpool mistake rather than being proactive and using their quality, demonstrated with an electric start to the season, to take the win.
