Jones has started the season in fine form after years of injury issues at Man United.
The 25-year-old joined the Reds in 2011 from Blackburn Rovers for around £16 million. Putting in impressive performances at centre-back, right-back and in defensive midfield, Jones was hailed by pundits managers and players alike, including by Sir Alex Ferguson who somewhat drunkenly claimed Jones could become one of United’s greatest ever players.
As a result, Jones has been brought back into the England set-up by Gareth Southgate, though he pulled out of the last squad with a minor knock.
Jones’ current deal at Old Trafford is set to run out in the summer of 2019, although there is a one-year contract extension option that United could trigger.
However, due to the impressive performances of Jones this season and his ability to stay injury free as yet United are set to give the Englishman a long-term deal.
Going further than ESPN FC, TEAMtalk claim that United and the player’s representatives are hoping for a deal to be wrapped up by Christmas with the FIFA 2018 World Cup on the horizon.
They also suggest that, per the Daily Mirror, Jones will become one of the Premier League’s highest paid defenders with a contract worth £150,000 a week, on a par with Chelsea’s David Luiz and Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany.
