Jose Mourinho has rubbished reports pointing towards a potential new contract at Manchester United alongside a potential move to Paris Saint Germain.
Various reports have suggested that the club has opened preliminary talks with the Portuguese over extending his contract at Old Trafford beyond three years following a positive start to his second campaign in charge.
Other reports, however, have claimed that Mourinho was being lined up as a potential candidate for the job at PSG in the future.
And Mourinho, speaking ahead of the clash with Benfica, was quick to dismiss both reports as completely baseless.
“I think you English media have the answer,” he quipped. “In one day it says I am going to sign a 5 year contract, £1billion per season.”
“The next day you say I am leaving to go to PSG. That is the answer.
“Nothing is happening, I am not signing anew 5 years contract and I am not leaving for PSG. I am not leaving United. I have a contract and that is it.”
You sense that the 54-year-old, now in the early stages of his second season in charge, is not thinking about leaving the club or extending his time here either.
He will most likely take up another managerial role beyond his years at Old Trafford but this shouldn’t be a present day concern. Now is the time to work hard and evolve, pushing for greater levels of harmony and, of course, silverware. Proper silverware.
Only once the latter is achieved will Mourinho pause and think about what comes next.
