Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to return for Manchester United in December or January, according to club great Andy Cole.
The Swedish striker recently trained with Cole at Man United’s Carrington Aon Training Complex as he looks to return from a serious knee operation.
Cole, meanwhile, is recovering from a kidney transplant operation that he underwent in April.
“He is doing very good,” Cole said of Ibrahimovic.
“I had a chat with Zlatan when he was in the gym the other day. I think he is looking forward to coming back, most probably in December or January time.
“I think he will definitely bring something to the football team, as we already know. After last season, he was fantastic. It will be nice to see him back when he returns.”
To suffer such a serious ligament injury as Ibrahimovic did. and return before the year is out, having only suffered the blow in April in United’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg against Belgian side Anderlecht, is remarkable, particularly so for a 36-year-old striker.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, Cole said, “December or January time, of course, it is not bad! But like he keeps saying, he is not human.
“I love his banter and I think his enthusiasm for the game of football, and what he is around the complex, speaks volumes about him.”
Ibrahimovic netted 28 goals last season for United, dragging them across the line in many games. That kind of effort will not be required this season due to the outstanding form of summer signing Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 11 goals in his opening 12 games for United, but the services, leadership, and game-changing ability of Ibrahimovic will certainly be welcome back at Old Trafford.
