Marcus Rashford produces powerful cameo against Huddersfield Town

by Leo Nieboer

Marcus Rashford produced a commanding performance from the bench during Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho‘s men endured a pitiful first half as sloppy mistakes from Juan Mata and Victor Lindelof saw the hosts race into a two goal lead.

Rashford was duly introduced at half time and immediately injected life into United’s attacking display, bombing down the left hand side with vigour and setting up a tense finish by nodding home his seventh goal of the season from Romelu Lukaku’s cross.

A quick glance at the teenager’s numbers from the game reveal just how important his influence was going forward in the second period.

Rashford’s verve and raw talent is becoming so commonplace that the footballing world, after an initial eruption of adulation, no longer appreciates the extent of his impact on the pitch.

He was once again the sole beacon of unpredictability at Huddersfield. Whilst others found themselves unable to break free of the hoard of blue and white shirts, seemingly bogged down by their greater levels of energy, the 19-year-old placed himself in promising areas and went for the home side’s jugular.

There is a kind of natural thrust about Rashford’s game that very nearly clawed back a draw following a nightmare opening 45 minutes for Mourinho’s men. If only somebody else could have stood up alongside him.
