Andreas Pereira reacts to prospect of early return to Manchester United from Valencia loan

by Leo Nieboer

Andreas Pereira has noted that he would prefer to see out the 2017/18 campaign at Valencia as opposed to being recalled by Manchester United.

The Brazilian, who enjoyed his finest patch of form on loan at Granada last season, went against Jose Mourinho‘s wishes by moving to La Liga once again in September.

And he has enjoyed a positive start for Los Che, who lie second in La Liga, and scored his first goal for the club during a 6-3 win over Real Betis.

Speaking to AS Spain, Pereira made it clear that he was enjoying life at the Mestalla and didn’t want to leave prematurely.

“When I signed, I knew that this clause existed,” he said. “But now I am calm, focused on Valencia. Nobody called me from Manchester.”

“I’m calm, if they want them to go back they’ll call. I want to stay here for the whole season because I’m fit, I feel good… If I had to go back it would be difficult again.”

“I could see it from a negative side and think he was angry with me. But I was always very good to him. We were always honest with each other.

“I think of the positive: If I were not a good player, he would not have said anything in the press, he would have let me go and that’s it. I think he was worried because I left. I have to think about myself now.”

Valencia are absolutely flying and you can see why Pereira doesn’t want to go anywhere, although starting opportunities are not a given like they were at Granada, especially with Goncalo Guedes in such scintillating form. And while he has made seven appearances so far, the 21-year-old has been reduced to just one start this month.

But he will quickly tell you that the same thing would be happening had he remained at Old Trafford for this season. And in spite of a lack of starting opportunities in recent weeks, Pereira clearly sees a golden opportunity to establish himself in what is a truly exciting squad under manager Marcelino.
