Anthony Martial will not face any retrospective acton from the FA following a spat with Tommy Smith during Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield over the weekend.
The Frenchman kicked out at the captain after he was caught with a late challenge on the byline but didn’t receive any punishment from referee Lee Mason.
Both Martial and Smith were eventually booked for a separate incident that occurred following another coming together on the left hand side. Jose Mourinho could clearly see the sparks flying around in his head and duly took him off at half time.
And according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, the FA reviewed footage of the incident but decided it wasn’t malicious enough to warrant further investigation.
Yes, that’s right, folks: the FA are at it once again refusing to properly investigate the nasty details of a particular incident.
This time around, however, they were right to leave this episode alone. All that’s happened here is a shrewd bit of cage rattling from Smith that completely nullified Martial’s influence in Yorkshire.
We may think of the Frenchman as a suave, cold-blooded professional, but he gets riled up too. And as is often the case with youngsters, such anger can redirect one’s focus away from the game.
