Antonio Valencia 7 – Battled hard all afternoon on the right hand side, keeping tabs on the likes of Ben Davies and Son Heung-min. Came close with a fizzing drive in the second half.
Eric Bailly 7 – A strong return to action from the Ivorian. Made his presence in the air felt and largely kept everything in front of him.
Chris Smalling 6.5 – Endured a couple of shaky moments in the first half but led the back line with growing levels of confidence as the game went on.
Phil Jones 6 – Struggled to settle for large parts of the game, giving De Gea a couple of unnecessary problems. Largely kept track of Son.
Ashley Young 7 – Another ebullient display from the Englishman, always looking to move play up the pitch and linking up well with teammates. Needs to get into more crossing positions.
Ander Herrera 6 – Once again tenacious and dedicated in the middle, battling hard against Dele Alli, but his lack of forward momentum continues to frustrate.
Nemanja Matic 7 – The Serbian’s presence in midfield is nothing short of vital: with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini still missing, Matic was once again the one offering an element of class and control in the middle.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 5.5 – Another ineffectual performance from the Armenian. Picked up the ball in good areas but didn’t appear to have the guile and execution to release players around him.
Marcus Rashford 7 – Without doubt the home side’s most lively presence going forward, bursting into the channels and giving the Spurs back four plenty of problems. Delivery could have been better at times.
Romeu Lukaku 6.5 – A frustrating afternoon for the Belgian, who only managed to test Hugo Lloris once. You sense Mkhitaryan’s poor form is badly impacting on him, but his flick for Martial was a sign of his unquestionable instinctive talent.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Ran hard and displayed plenty of energy at No.10 but couldn’t effect himself in the final third. Missed a big chance late on.
Anthony Martial 7 – The hero from the bench. In a game that needed a moment of attacking clarity, the Frenchman provided it with ten minutes left, stroking the ball past Lloris.
