Jose Mourinho provides Manchester United injury update ahead of Benfica clash

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that no other players will return from injury in time for the Champions League clash with Benfica on Tuesday night.

Eric Bailly and Phil Jones both recovered from respective injuries for the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Marcos Rojo all remain sidelined, but Mourinho recently confirmed that the latter would return after the international break.

But the 54-year-old, speaking at a press conference, noted that supporters would have to wait to see any other players return.

“I think it is the same,” he said. “We have one more training session to confirm but with the best scenario, same players we had at the weekend.”

Reports have suggested that Pogba could return in time for the Chelsea clash this weekend but the boss is likely to leave him out and give him the time over the international break to fully recover.

And while Zlatan’s return still lies some way away, ambiguity continues to surround the fitness of Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick. Both have been injured since the international break and supporters will hope to receive further clarity on their respective recoveries when Mourinho speaks to the press again on Friday.
