According to the Sunday Express, Manchester United are ready to spend big on PSG’s Belgian full-back in a bid to bring him to Old Trafford.
Thomas Meunier has been reportedly admired by Jose Mourinho from afar for a while now and it seems the Portuguese is prepared to invest.
Antonio Valencia currently occupies the right-back spot but as the 32-year-old Ecuadorian ages, his status in the squad will surely diminish as well.
Meunier is seen as the man to eventually replace Valencia with reports of fitness issues growing by the minute for the former Wigan man.
Antonio has apparently been ‘in the red’ for a while now under Mourinho’s management and it appears his age has finally caught up with him.
Jose is concerned that risking the right-back’s health will potentially lead to injuries and would rather bring in a defender he can trust.
Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young are also capable of filling in the same position but the Englishman has had more success at the left-back spot while the Italian appears to be everything Mourinho doesn’t look for in a defender.
Darmian also seems to be a little fed-up of his lack of serious game time at United and hasn’t entirely ruled out a move away from Old Trafford.
Thomas would represent a sensible buy for the Red Devils and should provide real, healthy competition for Valencia who currently wouldn’t have any concerns of his position in the team.
Head and shoulders above the rest, Antonio could do with some rivalry and some rest for that matter but will Mourinho spend big?
