Ray Wilkins: Jose Mourinho has opportunity to pounce on wounded Chelsea

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho travel to Stamford Bridge in the hopes of securing another three points against their Premier League rivals.

The Red Devils are currently in second place with only five points separating themselves and Manchester City while Chelsea trail Mourinho’s men by four points.

Both teams will certainly be looking to close the gap on the clubs above them with Chelsea aiming to turn around a lacklustre season so far.

Jose will also be keen to improve his record against top clubs whilst sending out a real title shout by beating his former side.

Ray Wilkins believes that the Portuguese tactician now has the best chance to beat the Blues given their recent form.

Speaking to Premier League Daily, he said: “Jose Mourinho must be looking at this situation now, after watching Chelsea in Rome, that they are a side that’s struggling.

“He has now got the best possible chance to go to Stamford Bridge and claw back three points that Manchester City also got.

“He must feel they’ve got every opportunity to win this game. Chelsea are lacking confidence, the players are not playing to their abilities or their strengths and this is an opportunity for them to come to Stamford Bridge and take the game away from them.”

With United facing Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea in recent weeks in the Premier League, the club has the perfect opportunity to come out of the difficult period unscathed.

A draw away at Anfield was somewhat respectable and beating a flying Tottenham side looks like a great result the more time passes on.

Mourinho though will have his sights set firmly on his former side and should he come away with a win then it will truly mark the return of Manchester United as title challengers.

Antonio Conte is hoping to turn around his club’s frustrating start and his players apparently miss Nemanja Matic‘s presence on the pitch.

The London side’s owner is hardly known for being patient and if Jose Mourinho manages to secure a victory then he may just have thrown a gun towards the Russian billionaire’s trigger happy hand.
