Manchester United ‘seriously considering’ selling David de Gea to Real Madrid next summer – report

Manchester United are ‘seriously considering’ selling David de Gea to Real Madrid on one condition.

Spanish publication Don Balon suggest manager Jose Mourinho will request central defender Raphael Varane to be part of the deal.

Though Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has proved himself at the Santiago Bernabeu, De Gea remains the European champions’ top target to replace Navas should they look to change the man between the sticks.

Mourinho is coming round to the idea of allowing De Gea to return to his home city with a move to Madrid. The 27-year-old has been perennially linked to Zinedine Zidane’s side, and came incredibly close to signing for Los Blancos in 2015 until a paperwork error stopped the move from going through on transfer deadline day.

However, the Portuguese manager would demand the inclusion of 24-year-old defender Varane as well as a significant transfer fee to let De Gea go to the Bernabeu.

Varane signed for Mourinho at Real Madrid back in 2011 from Lens and is now one of the world’s best defenders.

While Varane would be an excellent addition to United’s squad, he’s not worth losing the world’s best goalkeeper over. However, if De Gea is set to push for an exit from Old Trafford, which is unlikely at this stage, including Varane in the deal would be a fantastic move.
