Manchester United one of top clubs guilty of missing big chances

Manchester United have reportedly been guilty of missing a host of big chances in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils struggled with efficiency and shot conversion last season with Jose Mourinho addressing the issue by bringing in Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian striker was meant to become the club’s new main goalscorer but has gone through a small drought.

United’s failures in front of goal was widely targeted as the reason for their poor position in the Premier League last season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were all guilty but the two youngsters have since stepped up their goal intake.

According to the Daily Star, Mourinho’s men are tied in 5th place with Chelsea and Watford, missing twelve big chances each in England’s top division.

In comparison, Manchester City missed a whooping 27 big chances and Huddersfield, Burnley and Bournemouth missed only four big chances so far.

11 games have been played in the new Premier League season with United averaging two goals per game having scored 23 times.

Scoring at least half of those 12 big chances though may be the difference between being eight points behind league leaders Manchester City and possibly leading the table themselves.

It appears that bringing in Lukaku has alleviated the Red Devils’ main issue but perhaps his teammates are more to blame than he is.

After all, it isn’t just the striker who has chances to score in matches and should United hope to challenge for the Premier League title, they’ll need their whole team to chip in with goals too.
