Manchester United may sell Marouane Fellaini in January, with £8m Besiktas move on the cards

Marouane Fellaini may be set to leave Manchester United in January with an £8m move to Besiktas on the cards.

The Belgian’s contract at Man United expires in the summer, meaning he would be free to leave for no transfer fee in July 2018. United could try and get some sort of deal for Fellaini before that becomes the case.

The Sunday Mirror suggest Fellaini’s departure is necessary for Jose Mourinho to bring in new faces to United’s squad. They suggest that the Portuguese manager has been instructed to sell players before bringing in any signings.

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, who has been a ‘name’ for some time but is still just 24, could be the playrr that Mourinho is looking to bring in. He’s been gaining interest from a number of European sides.

Fellaini has appeared to become one of United’s most important players this season, the man central to Mourinho’s ‘plan B’ in the latter stages of games. Simultaneously, the Belgian has greatly improved in terms of cutting mistakes out of his game.

However, United don’t want to lose him for free, and Mourinho, despite trusting Fellaini, may realise that given an upgrade is certainly possible, there is no reason not to go for such an upgrade in January, potentially with the addition of Fred.
