The Frenchman, who has six goals and five assists for Manchester United so far this season, was handed his first call-up in exactly a year for clashes with Wales and Joachim Low’s men.
And Martial didn’t waste time making his mark, bringing Lucas Digne’s fizzing ball under control before leaving Niklas Sule on the ground with one swift, mesmerising turn that allowed him to slide the ball square for Alexandre Lacazette, who tapped home into an empty net.
Here is a video of the 21-year-old doing what he does best: eviscerating defenders.

There is actually a moment here when Martial, just for a split second, makes time itself stop.
Any footwork in the box is usually frantic or punctuated by somebody’s else’s challenge, yet Martial, despite the litany of white shirts around him, had the guile and awareness to somehow make anybody else in the box a mere spectator.
Sule has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign with Bayern Munich but he will, following that episode of public slaughter, have to join the likes of Dani Carvajal and Mame Biram Diouf, among many others, in the line for the Martial victim support group, and most likely spend the rest of his days in a nappy.
