Manchester United trigger Ander Herrera’s contract extension: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have tied Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera down to a further year by triggering a contract extension clause.

Herrera, who was once United’s player of the year, has seen himself drop down the pecking order after Nemanja Matic‘s transfer was complete from Chelsea.

The Serbian has been impressive form for the Red Devils so far this season and it’s clear for all to see that he is Jose Mourinho‘s first choice midfielder.

Partnering him in midfield is another man who Mourinho invested so heavily in, Paul Pogba who has started the season incredibly well, leaving Ander to warm up the substitutes bench.

The Frenchman’s absence saw the former Atletico Bilbao man return to the starting line-up but was dropped once more in the match against Newcastle.

However, Jose clearly see Ander Herrera as an important squad player if not more after triggering his contract, meaning it’ll now expire in the summer of 2019, according to the Daily Mail.

Fans were worried that the Spaniard might be at risk of leaving the club on a free transfer, especially with reports of Atletico Madrid’s interest surfacing in recent days but it has all since cooled down.

Herrera reportedly turned down any sort of move away from Old Trafford with his passion for the club meaning his has no interest in leaving anytime soon.

However, he may not have a choice if his manager simply triggered the extension in order to get more value for him once he’s sold.

Rumours are growing of the Red Devil’s interest in Valencia’s Carlos Soler and that may be the last straw for Ander.
