Manchester United fans happy with Victor Lindelof’s performance vs Brighton

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United fans were delighted with centre-back Victor Lindelof‘s display vs a stubborn Brighton Hove & Albion side.

The new signing’s performance was indicative of better form and Lindelof seems to finally have put his shaky days behind him.

Fans were initially concerned with the Swede’s quality after struggling on the club’s pre-season tour and the UEFA Super Cup match against Real Madrid was the final straw.

Dropped and left to lick his wounds, Victor has since bounced back and seems to be a solid defender to call upon when needed.

Although he’ll need some more time to continue adjusting, there have been positive signs of growth and United fans were quick to point them out.

The centre-back position is one of the club’s most competitive positions with a number of players capable of fulfilling that role.

Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and even academy product Axel Tuanzebe are all respectable central defenders.

Rojo was a Jose Mourinho favourite towards the end of last season and one would expect him to feature regularly once he’s fully fit.

Smalling has been at the end of his manager’s wrath a couple of times and is perhaps the most like player to be moved on.

Jones has fought back from some early criticism and seems a trustworthy defender when he’s not on the sidelines.

Bailly was Mourinho’s first defensive investment and has shown signs of quality but will need to be fit and firing consistently before nailing down his starting XI spot.

The hope is that Eric and Lindelof both play alongside each other and form a solid, impregnable centre-back partnership in the future that will lay the foundations of success for this United side.
