Zinedine Zidane makes Anthony Martial his main target for Real Madrid next summer – report

Real Madrid are considering an £80million move for Manchester United’s young forward Anthony Martial.

With seven goals in 18 games this season, Martial is well in-form after a difficult season in Jose Mourinho’s debut year with Man United.

Lacking confidence last year, Martial struggled, but he’s back in the goals and showing his remarkable ability this year. Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has identified the Frenchman as his key target for next summer’s transfer window, according to the Mirror.

Zidane is aiming to bring some youth and pace to his side. Cristiano Ronaldo, 32, and Karim Benzema, 29, have both been at the Santiago Bernabeu for some years now as lynchpins in the side. But they are ageing, and while they’re unlikely to be replaced next summer, Martial could be brought in to fill their huge boots in the future.

Just 21, Martial has won three trophies with United, played over 100 games and scored more than 30 goals. He is already a global name, and Zidane reportedly expects him to be one of world football’s future stars. With Real Madrid, of course, they feel that all of world football’s stars should be playing for Los Blancos.

Martial is happy at United, it seems. There were periods of struggle last year, and he’s still not a guaranteed starter at Old Trafford, far from it. Marcus Rashford, the 20-year-old Mancunian, is preferred to him by Mourinho.

Real Madrid are always an attractive proposition, there is little doubt about that. And if they want a player, they often get that player. United have, somewhat fortunately, managed to hold out and keep David de Gea from the European champions’ grasp so far.

Hopefully they can do the same with Martial, who will be one of the best in the world at one point, it’s United duty to make sure that happens, and make sure it happens for him in a Red shirt at this club, not at Real Madrid, even for £80m.
