Manchester United fans couldn’t have asked for more after academy product Jesse Lingard managed to grab a brace at the Emirates vs Arsenal.
With both teams fielding a back five, many expected a defensive display but instead the fiery clash proved to be one of the matches of the season.
Lingard was playing in his new role under Mourinho this season, having successfully taken over Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata as the club’s number 10 in recent games.
The player himself has admitted that his preference is to play in that position and proved to the world just why he should get more minutes there with fans sure to call Jose to continue showing faith in the Englishman.

Fair play to Jesse Lingard. Gets criticised far too heavily for what he brings. Right place, right time, and two goals. Good on him.

Jesse Lingard had found himself to be heavily criticised by some supporters who believed that the versatile player was incapable of influencing matches successfully.
The England international may have missed some relatively easy chances previously which added fuel to the fire with more pundits branding him as wasteful and played down his finishing.
However, much of the concerns surrounding Lingard were put to bed with his display vs Arsenal with his goals singlehandedly giving the Red Devils the win.
Jesse’s movement is second to none and he showed maturity in covering teammate Paul Pogba whenever the Frenchman did foray forward.
With good link up play and two goals to his name, it’s down to the academy man to continue his recent performances and truly nail down his spot in Manchester United’s starting XI.
