James Ducker: David de Gea is Manchester United’s best piece of transfer business

by Marwan Harraz

Correspondent James Ducker was in full praise of Manchester United’s David de Gea after his incredible performance vs Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Red Devils were hosted by the Gunners in a crucial fixture that ultimately worked out in Jose Mourinho‘s favour as his players ran out 3-1 winners.

Goals from Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia helped United keep up the pressure on league leaders Manchester City but it was De Gea who stole the show.

A superb double save in particular stood out from the Spaniard who may have singlehandedly saved his teammates from dropping points.

Jose’s players dominated the early proceedings but soon needed to rely on a sturdy defence and their world class goalkeeper and Ducker believes keeping David was more important than anything else last summer.

According to Sky Sports, James said to the Sunday Supplement: “What is remarkable about De Gea is that unlike Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who have only just started performing in recent weeks, his head was turned but he has the ability to block things out and be the ultimate professional.

“That takes a special player who has the mentality to detach themselves from what’s going on in and around the scenes.

“He is a remarkable goalkeeper and United’s ability to keep him, despite Paul Pogba and other signings being good, has been the best piece of transfer business they’ve done.”

David de Gea‘s performance vs Arsenal drew praise from everyone in the business with even his manager claiming he’s the best in the world.

Subject to huge interest from Real Madrid, United have a faulty fax machine to thank for the failed transfer.

Although there are very capable goalkeepers in the world who Mourinho could have brought in should that have happened, it’s unlikely anyone is on the same level as the Spaniard.

United could have possibly even relied on Argentina’s first choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero who has proven an incredibly reliable backup to David.

Jose rotated the talented pair fairly frequently last season but De Gea has proven to be head and shoulders above his competitor this season.
